Leadership Transition at DNPA: Mariam Mammen Mathew Takes Helm, Puneet Gupt as COO

Mariam Mammen Mathew, currently serving as the CEO of Manorama Online, steps into the role of chairperson at DNPA (Digital News Publishers’ Association) for a term spanning two years, commencing on April 1, 2024. She succeeds Tanmay Maheshwari, the Managing Director of Amar Ujala, having previously held the position of vice-chairperson under Maheshwari’s stewardship.

Expressing her gratitude, Mariam remarked, “It is a privilege to lead DNPA and contribute to the advancement of India’s digital media landscape. My foremost objective is to enhance the reach, impact, and resilience of digital news platforms.” She underscored the significance of leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) for transformative progress and reiterated her commitment to nurturing a culture of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity within DNPA.

Puneet Gupt Assumes Role of COO at DNPA

Puneet Gupt, currently serving as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Times Internet, assumes the position of vice-chairman at DNPA, while Puneet Jain, CEO of Digital HT Media, continues his tenure as treasurer.

DNPA, serving as an overarching body for digital arms of media enterprises, remains proactive in ensuring parity and fairness for all news publishers. Representing 18 notable media entities such as Dainik Jagran, Dainik Bhaskar, The Indian Express, among others, DNPA strives for equitable representation and practices within the digital news realm.

Reflecting on his tenure, outgoing chairman Tanmay Maheshwari remarked, “Having led DNPA for an engaging two years, I am gratified to have contributed to the democratization of India’s digital news landscape. I am confident that Mariam Mathew will bring invaluable insights to our collective mission.”

Under Maheshwari’s guidance, DNPA orchestrated various editions of the DNPA Dialogues and Conclave & Awards, significantly impacting India’s digital news media panorama. The association remains steadfast in its dedication to promoting, supporting, and safeguarding the interests of digital news publishers, fostering camaraderie among members, and upholding credibility while shielding them from unjust practices.

Sujata Gupta, the Secretary-General of DNPA, underscored the organization’s endeavors in safeguarding the interests of India’s digital news entities and fostering enhanced collaboration between Big Tech platforms and digital news media organizations.

DNPA’s endeavors align with ongoing regulatory efforts in India, led by Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, aimed at ensuring fairness in the operations of Big Tech platforms within the country.
