Boost for Solar Users: Electricity Rate for KSEB Supply Hiked

Increasing the electricity rate sold to KSEB benefits solar users.

After a prolonged request from solar users, the Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved the increase in the rate of electricity sold to KSEB.

The new rate for each unit of electricity supplied to KSEB after meeting the user’s needs will now be ₹3.15, up from the previous rate of ₹2.69, marking a 46 paise increase per unit. This revised rate will be effective from April 1, 2023, until the end of the year.

Despite the financial implications for KSEB, the state government supported this decision to encourage rural solar energy projects. Previously, there were concerns about KSEB taking advantage of rural solar project users through high rates and questionable billing practices.

Even though KSEB could source electricity at a lower cost from other providers, the decision to raise the rate was made to address the grievances of solar users.
