Bolgatty Palace

Bolgatty Palace is a historic palace located on Bolgatty Island in Kochi (Cochin), Kerala, India. It is one of the oldest existing Dutch palaces. The palace has a fascinating history, and its architecture reflects a blend of Dutch and traditional Kerala styles.

Bolgatty Palace was originally built by the Dutch in 1744 during their colonial rule in India. The palace served as the official residence of the Dutch Governors during their administration in the region. Later, it was leased to the British in 1909 and remained under their control until India gained independence in 1947.

After India’s independence, the palace was used as a British residency for some time before being converted into a heritage hotel by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC). Since then, the palace has been a popular tourist destination and luxury hotel in Kochi.

Architecture and Surroundings:
The palace features typical Dutch colonial architecture with large windows, slanting roofs, and spacious halls. The location of the palace on Bolgatty Island provides stunning views of the backwaters and the cityscape of Kochi.

The surrounding area is beautifully landscaped with manicured gardens, lush greenery, and serene water bodies, making it a peaceful retreat for visitors. The scenic beauty and historical significance of the palace attract both local and international tourists.

As mentioned earlier, the Bolgatty Palace is now a heritage hotel managed by KTDC. The hotel offers a unique experience of staying in a historic setting while enjoying modern amenities. Guests can immerse themselves in the palace’s rich heritage and take in the picturesque views of the surroundings.

Guests staying at Bolgatty Palace can engage in various activities such as exploring the palace’s architecture and history, taking leisurely walks in the gardens, and enjoying boat rides on the backwaters. The hotel also provides facilities like a swimming pool, Ayurvedic spa, and restaurants serving traditional Kerala cuisine.

Overall, Bolgatty Palace stands as a testament to the colonial history of Kochi and continues to charm visitors with its old-world charm and scenic beauty.
